How does the ATU know if a safe-break is attempted?
The Guardsman ATU protects the valuables in your safe by monitoring for suspicious activity in 4 ways:
If the safe is tilted more than a pre-determined angle it will activate the ATU, meaning that potential intruders cannot lift or move the safe
The ATU senses vibration, and the alarm will be activated if an attempt is made to move it on rollers or a pallet truck.
If there is any attempt to cut into the safe with oxy acetylene, the heat sensor will recognise an extreme temperature change and activate the alarm.
If there is an attempt to drill the lock, the audio sensor will activate the ATU.
What happens when the alarm is activated?
Once the ATU has been armed, the 4 sensors constantly monitor for any activity.
Any activity detected will cause the ATU to become “alert” for 1 minute. During this minute, the ATU monitors for any further activity – any activity during this “alert” minute will activate the alarm.
The activated alarm beeps continuously for one minute. This gives you time to reset the alarm should you have accidentally activated it. After one minute, the smoke pack is detonated, releasing an indelible red security smoke that dyes the contents of the safe red.
What if I set the alarm off by mistake?
The total time from the first activity monitored to the detonation of the smoke pack is approximately 2 minutes. This gives you ample time to reset the alarm if the activation is accidental.
Other features designed to stop accidental activation include a light sensing switch that looks like a small bulb on the front of the ATU. When this switch is subjected to light, the ATU is in standby mode and will not activate. In other words, the ATU will not activate with the safe door open.
